What is A/B Testing, and why is it important?

With the increasingly high expectations for a quality customer experience and the need for valid and valuable data, you have to ensure that you're not making any mistakes with your websites and applications. For this exactly, you could use the A/B Testing technique.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing (also known as split testing) is a marketing technique that involves comparing two versions of a web page or application to identify which performs better. To simply put it, this is the method in which two versions of the same design will be presented to two different groups to find out which one performs better. Using this technique, you can identify what elements can be improved to provide a good user experience.

Why use A/B Testing?

Dos and Don'ts

Running an A/B Test will help you understand what works and what doesn't. Before investing in one variation, it's essential to test and know whether it will perform well or if a better variation appears to be performing well.

Reduce bounce rates

If your website is created with content that meets your customers' requirements, they might stay on your site longer. This will reduce the bounce rates while also increasing the customers' engagement with your content. A/B testing allows you to create content and test to see how well the users are taking it. With this, you will be able to ensure that the content you put out is the right content.

Higher conversion rates

As discussed earlier, knowing what works and what doesn't work is one benefit you gain from A/B testing. This helps you gain another advantage which is higher conversion rates. Not only does good content help you reduce bounce rates, but it also enables you to keep your customers/users engaged with your content, which means that there is a high chance that they would take action, hence increasing the conversion rates. For instance, a website visitor becoming a customer of your business or signing up to receive newsletters could be some of their actions.

Keeping up with the trends

Consumer behaviour and consumer expectations are two things that continue to change rapidly. This is why creating appropriate content, developing the necessary features could be considered daunting tasks. However, with A/B testing, you will be able to stay on top of these constantly changing trends and cater to the consumers/users' requirements.

How does A/B testing work?

Let's say that you're a game developer and analytics show a drop in the number of players who reach level 4 of the game. The general assumption would be that the level is much more difficult in comparison to the previous levels. In this case, you would create two or more variations of the same level to identify what players are looking for. Maybe simpler than the original but more complex than the rest. Whichever variation proves to have performed better than the other variations could be the one you decide to go with. A/B testing allows you to test and find out, so you can go ahead with the most suitable variation/version.

Conclusion

A/B testing is crucial to ensure that your website/application is appropriate and relevant based on many factors such as changing trends, consumer/user expectations, and so on. In doing so, your business could gain the benefits mentioned above.

If you want to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of your applications or websites, A/B testing is a must!
